Talk to Text

With MCe there are many places you can enter data with voice rather than text. MCe works with your operating system to provide this. In all cases below, you start by selecting a text field, then follow the instructions for your device. Your device must have a microphone of course, these are ubiquitous on Laptops, Android and iOS devices.

Windows

If you have Windows 10 or 11, press the Windows logo key + H

Android:

When the keyboard is up, click on the microphone button. Here is what it looks like on a high end Samsung circa 2026

--image: Android Talk To Text.png The first time in you'll likely have to go and give Microphone permission, pick "Allow only while using the app". You could of course choose "Ask every time" but that would be pretty annoying. If you accidentally, or on purpose, pick "Don't allow" then you'll have to go in through the then current method on your specific device and Android version and give permission back. Your device likely has other option that may or may not need permissions, such as handwriting.

iOS:

In the system settings, select keyboard then make sure 'dictation' is selected

Linux

It depends on your flavor and version of Linux and whether you have any extra software that changes how it works. But look for a method that has a microphone option to click or a system setting to make it always on.
