Assets
Differences between Location and non-location assets
Location assets have an address, non-location assets do not.
Location is used to build the "Asset location" for a work order
Non-location assets can be rotated via inventory, Location assets cannot.
Non-location assets show an ID in the tree, location assets do not
Location assets show in the tree if they are not associated with a repair center being filtered (so you drill down the tree and get to assets that are in another repair center)
Non-Location assets may be filtered out of a tree view if the are not associated with the repair center being filtered.
There are a few 'trigger' differences such as non-location assets such as, when a non-location asset is showing a 'location', it only uses the 'location' parents, it ignores the parents that are 'non-location' assets for showing the location of the asset.
Example:
Panamá (location)
- Panamá City (location)
- 123 Main street (location)
- Floor 4 (not location)
- Room 407 (location)
- Desk 32 (not location)
- Top left drawer (not location)
- Desk 32 (not location)
- Room 407 (location)
- Floor 4 (not location)
- 123 Main street (location)
Desk 32 has a location of Panama, Panama City, 123 MainStreet, room 407. Floor 4 and "desk 32" are not part of the location for "Top left drawer". OF course if YOU want, Floor 4 could be part of the location by making it a location asset.
Most things apply to both. A building is 'obviously' an asset, even though it is a location asset.
