These days, you have to run in HTTPS. The browsers restrict too much if you don't. And you have to use a public certificate, self signed aren't accepted by modern browsers as trustworthy.

With free HTTPS certificates, there is no reason to not anymore. Yes back in 2015 there were reasons, but not in 2025.

Yes it takes work. But so does installing a lock on your new house, and so is the pain of getting keys out to unlock the door to get into your house.

Any IT department that can't install HTTPS needs to upgrade to the modern era.
