Anti-Virus causing significantly slower performance
MC 2025, 2023, 2022 and 2021

This has not been seen to affect MCe as MCe uses a top end signing certificate that the virus checkers accept.

'Modern' MC code in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025 (likely later as well) have use an ASP encryption mode on the default.asp page.  And its larger in 2021+.  Its contents have likely changed so something that vaguely looks like an attack page, thus causing extra scanning.  And seemingly due to the encryption, the scan results don't get cached.

In addition, there are a few known libraries that ASP attack pages use.  And unfortunately, MC's ASP also requires those libraries (for things like file upload).  So it triggers AV scans like crazy.

As a result, most Anti-Virus checkers have proven to be more concerned about checking the MC asp code in 2021-2025 (and likely will for 2026) than in 8.9 and older. This is not MC's fault so to speak, but it does mean faster hardware is required because turning off the anti-virus is not recommended.

The built in Microsoft Virus scanner does the same thing so saying "But I haven't installed a virus scanner" isn't technically true, if you have been keeping your Windows Server up to date the last decade, you have installed at least one Virus Scanner.

2025 a bit better in performance in some areas, but overall just a bit of an improvement because the goal primarily was fixing bugs and some new capabilities.

Login is particularly slow,

Other solutions:

  • Faster harder, in general, newer software, not just MC, requires faster hardware because of the new things it does, the extra data that has to be managed.
  • Upgrade to MCe (no charge, but there is a learning curve/slightly different UI overall, significantly different, more powerful/graphical, UI for reports, rules (events & actions), PMs (Automations including PM and PdM)
  • Make sure you don't have 2 anti-virus scanners running - no sense doubling the problem.
  • See if your AV has any settings that will let you tell it to skip all the Accruent MC files. We haven't seen one that will honor that request, but maybe yours will.

Other performance issues not the AV specifically:

2025 installed using the APS/MCC/ITIQ MC installer avoids the drop down lists going through the US server, this is not the Anti-Virus not the Anti-Virus but also gives a bit better performance in MC 2025 so it is related.

2021, 2022, 2023, 2025 all add code for additional configurations and other reasons that just naturally slow it down a bit if you are running on the same hardware as previously.
