WO
Approvals

The recommended way with MCe

We provide approval LEVELS, were projects require approval to a certain 'level' typically based on cost.

So you might have people in the mail room able to approve a $50 project, let's call "up to $50" the Level 1 approval.

Level 4 might be "up to $50,000,00" and Level 5 might be "any amount no restrictions".

So if a project was set to require approval level 5, someone with level 5 approval would have to sign off before the project is 'approved'.

But we envision, and recommend, that there will be reporting or rules set up so that level 5 guys are notified "There are these level 5 projects that have been approved to level 4 so far ... they need your final approval."

And, just because you CAN approve to level 5 doesn't mean you have to. You might decide to approve a pet project to level 4, notifying other level 5 people of the need for one of them to agree with you to provide the final approval.

The legacy solution - not recommended

The Legacy solution works with Maximo, Accruent's MC and other systems where you simply require x people to approve the WO. (Other systems may have no way of requiring approvals.)

This limits greatly who should be involved in the approval process because all approvers are equal in power and value.

So if 5 approvals are required for a $100,000,000 project, and the 5 guys in the mail room each give 1 approval ... it is approved. But if the president of the company votes – his vote only counts for one, he's got to convince some other people (perhaps 4 of the guys in the mail room) to also vote for the project.

To make it a little more flexible, but still not recommended, we allow individuals to be allowed to vote more than once, so following our analogy, the guys in the mail room would only be able to vote one approval per WO, but the President of the company might have 5 and thereby be able to pass a level 5 without anyone else.

Preferences:

  • Unapprove, True/False
    • If WO is approved and in any state after approval, it will become requested and return to the original approval state (which MAY in rare cases be "not required")
    • If WO is not approved, it will erase the pending approval actions (all of them)

  • Can I set the work order to needs approval, only works on an issued or higher work order.
  • Can I set the work order up to level 5 (above its minimum)
