Not all do!
I'm not a salesman and I'm not a marketing person, I'm in charge of MCe Development. So I'm going to start by admitting, not everyone DOES like it!
We have been given reasons such as these: (Most quotes)
- I never had to do ANYTHING to document my work before, so this is just a huge time waster for me. The only people who care about it are management – and that's not my problem. My job is to fix problems.
- It is just a way for 'Big Brother' to keep track of me.
- I hate all computers. I don't like smart phones. I prefer paper and pencil.
- Let the young kids use computers, I just want to do my job and not be hassled with reporting.
- I liked driving back to the office after every job was done, it gave me a chance to have coffee, take a break, chat with others. (This really was a reason/complaint given to us in 2016.)
But most do at least Like it or Love it.
Most of the following are based on comments we have received back from Technicians who have used MCe, many though are common for all our mobile products through the years.
- I'm in a highly regulated (or highly safety directed) industry and it protects me as a technician from liability because it provides a good audit trail that I did my job correctly.
- It allows me to accomplish a lot more in my day because I don't have to wait on the phone or go back to the office after every job is completed to see what the next priority is.
- I don't have to rely on memory listening to instructions on the phone.
- I get to see when my priorities are changed and can adjust my workflow for it.
- I can plan my day better.
- It is easier than filling out, keeping track of (not losing) all sorts of pieces of paper.
- I'm messy – I was always losing the paperwork.
- I hate paper.
- Easy access to information like work history so I can see what has been done in the past and make more intelligent decisions based on that history.
- Helps me do the job faster – I can refer to the task list when working on something I haven't done for a while.
- My boss requires I document my work and time – this is much easier than dealing with the paper versions.
- A technician told me to add this: No more paper cuts
Do you have more?
If you have suggestions that we should add to EITHER of the sections – please email your suggestion to execassist@maintenanceconnection.ca with a subject line: Whitepaper – Reasons technicians Love/Hate MCe. Or, if you are writing why you hate MCe because you hate computers, you can mail it to:

Bugs, Features, Suggestions, Criticisms
And, perhaps even more important: If you have a suggestion that you would think would make Technicians move more to the 'love it' side, please send your suggestions by one of the above two methods, with a subject line: "Suggestion for how to make technicians love MCe".
We understand that there are often different opinions on what is a 'bug' vs a 'feature'. Just like three people can look at one politician and have three completely different opinions of them. We really do try hard to make our product as flexible and easy to use as possible, and yes, sometimes those two criteria are in conflict. But we are quite proud of the results we have been able to achieve and work hard to continue to make it better. As a result, all suggestions and complaints are looked at seriously, and while we may not be able to do everything we are asked, we do seriously consider every one of them – even ones that initially may appear unreasonable or impossible.
